1. What do you do on a day-to-day basis? First thing is always have breakfast and coffee while usually listening to Buena Vista Social club (always gets me on a good start). I go to vintage antique stores allot to get ideas for my line, make jewelry, paint, and spend way to much time on Face book, yes i said it! It has been hard for me to get back into the Tampa groove, moving back from the magic of NYC was and has not been easy, but there is always a master plan and I’m back to make it come to life.
2. What do you enjoy most about your job? The gratification of my clients, and knowing that they feel beautiful about themselves on many levels when they leave my chair. Its funny once they sit down its like a therapy session. I have helped them through some very difficult times, as much as they have helped me. As for the accessories line, which i work on day in a day out. Its new but just being able to put my ideas into a reality, and getting the positive feedback thus far, is very satisfying and something i will never take for granted.
3. What are some clothing or accessories you can’t live without? My high wasted BDG skinny jeans, a basic boyfriend acid washed t-shirt with holes, and my full fingered filigree vintage ring.
4. If you could do anything other than what you are doing, what would that be? I would love to be the head fashion stylist for Conde Nast Travel Magazine. To style for occasions around the world, and to actually travel around the world for work would be epic. Traveling is one of the main and huge inspirations for my line. The feeling of being in uncertain territory, and the beautiful people we meet along the way is just magic!!
5. If you could live anywhere other than where you live, where would that be? Spain, Madrid, or Barcelona
6. Do you own any Quail? If so, what is your favorite item? My Navy blazer, and diamond and chiffon neck piece LOVE LOVE!
7. What is the most inspiring thing someone has ever told you? I had a brief meeting with Jee Ahn the retail manager for Teen Vogue. She told me that there are allot of people trying to make it, and even more that don’t want you to succeed but no matter what stay humble and true to yourself, and the important people will see that. No matter what you may think about the fashion world its actually a fresh of breath air, when people are not all stuck on themselves and act like they know everything, but are open to what people have to say and are always willing to learn. It may not be word for word, but it was the message. She was very kind and genuine in her advice and ill never forget it.
8. What is your favorite feature on yourself? And why? My smile, I think a simple smile can unknowingly brighten any-ones day, I think its just a beautiful thing in general. 2 things ill never forget. My friend Patrick told me once in his heavy Italian accent. ” sarah no offense but you look really ugly today” because i was in a bad mood. I could not stop laughing so after that i decided to try my hardest even when it hurts to smile. And second my beautiful Client Stacey calls me “Sarah Smile” , i would not want to disappoint her. :-)
9. What is something most people don’t know about you? I play the harmonica, poorly but i play. Its one of my favorite instruments something about the sounds that come from it just makes me happy.
10. Attach a photo or photos of yourself.
