Beth “perfect hair” Jones…
10.28.10

This girl needs no introduce. BETH JONES of B. Jones Style will be our resident stylist for our Shop. Style. Shoot event tonight. Not only is she a styling guru but she just published the Stylit - fashions answer to the perfect planner! Read my interview with her below.

M. What are you most excited about for the SSS event?

B. Hanging out with a bunch of fabulous women and playing dress up for a few

hours! Always fun.

M. What are you favorite Fall trends?

B. I love leopard mixed with army everything. Love the 50’s pleats, longer hemlines and sweater-y goodness. Trousers.. high waists.. wide legs.. and

dramatic.

M. Name on song that describes your current mood?

B. Starlight Express (yep.. the cheesy 70’s song from the broadway musical)…cause I hope I am on it!

M. What’s your favorite Quail Fall style? How would you wear it?

B. I would wear the tie crepe pants in the tomato. I love the idea of wearing this with a taupe sweater, a creamy-nude blazer and a fur stole. I am

really into mixing shades of the same color family.

M. What is something no girl should be without?

B. A few hair tricks up her sleeve. Something to change up her look daily! A top knot, side braid, curly, straight, up-do.. just a few to mix it up.

Ladies and Gents, introducing Miss. Laurel Dailey
10.27.10

Tomorrow night will be our fabulous SHOP. STYLE. SHOOT event and I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to introduce you to Laurel Daily - photographer extraordinaire! Read the interview I did with her!

M. What are you most excited about for the SSS event?

L. I’m most excited to see what kind of sartorial magic mizz B. Jones conjures up. That woman is a wizard.

M. What are you favorite Fall trends?

L. For me, it’s about leopard print and military drab. I’ve always loved olive green and I’ve always loved leopard, but now it’s proliferating everywhere so my closet has definitely benefited from that.

M. What song best describes your current mood?

L. “Kudos” by Surf City. A little bit raucous. A little bit sunny. And a whole lotta love for California.

M. What’s your favorite Quail Fall style? How would you wear it?

L. I love the chain florette stole in white. I can throw that on over anything - a t-shirt, a dress, a jacket - and it instantly changes my look.

M. What is something no girl should be without?

L. A go-to scent and killer shades.

*You can’t deny this face.

The Parisian Flea Market

6. Do you own any Quail? If so, what is your favorite item?

Yes.

8. What is your favorite feature on yourself? And why?
My neck.  I love that it is so long.

10.13.10

Today marks a very special day in history. On October 13th, 1982 Michelle Nguyen emerged from her mothers womb and POW! Mankind would never be the same every again. No, that’s not true but life sure changed for a small vietnamese family in Redlands, California! As I ponder on my 28th year, I think about the important things….where do I want to be in 5 years? When do I want children? Where will we buy our first home? And then I begin to SWEAT BULLETS and change gears. “What do I want for my birthday?” (thats better). For those close to me, ponder no more. Here it is…

1. Rosetta Stone - Vietnamese

2. PS1 Bag

3. Personal birthday serenade from Win Butler of Arcade Fire (Jon Stewart can be there too)

4. Spaghetti Dinner

5. Modern Family DVD’s

6. Massage

7. The New Yorker

8. Weekend at The Parker Palm Springs

Name: Melinda Moen

Position: High School Art Teacher

Current location: Long Beach, CA

Hometown: Yorba Linda, CA

1. What do you do on a day-to-day basis? I teach Drawing and Painting classes at a public high school in Anaheim. I guess on a daily basis I design projects for my students that teach them how to draw or paint while at the same time trying my hardest to get them to think critically about the world around them. I kind-of make up visual problems and then I ask my students to solve them in a creative way. A good part of my day is also spent just trying to survive in a classroom full of high schoolers.

2. What do you enjoy most about your job?  I get to make stuff all day long. Every day is different and every year I get a whole new set of students. I also love that I get to decide what we study in class.

3. What are some clothing or accessories you can’t live without? Oh gosh. I hate to say it but I probably put on my black leggings everyday after work. I love them. But as far as everyday stuff, I would say my JCrew black flats and a pair of dark Levi jeans are a staple.

4. If you could do anything other than what you are doing, what would that be? Hard to say… I would love to make Documentary Films with my husband. He always gets to go on these creative adventures. I’d make a great Audio Mixer.

5. If you could live anywhere other than where you live, where would that be?  I love Long Beach, but if I HAD to move I might like to live in New York or some big city, just to see if I liked it. I hate driving.

6. Do you own any Quail? If so, what is your favorite item?  Of Course! I think Quail is dreamy. My all-time-favorite-item is a Quail over-sized printed T-shirt. I lost it once, and I was so sad I had to replace it immediately! I also got a black short mini-skirt a few years ago and it still is the perfect thing to put on when I feel like showing some leg. I think it’s my husband’s favorite Quail piece.

7. What is the most inspiring thing someone has ever told you? “Stand for something or you will fall for anything”. I think it goes something like that. I remember someone wrote it in my yearbook and it just stuck with me.

8. What is your favorite feature on yourself? And why? Right now… my big ol’ pregnant belly!

9. What is something most people don’t know about you? I have this compulsion to throw stuff away every once in a while. Like someone will leave a huge Birthday cake or a casserole at my house and they wont take it back and I’ll feel obligated to wrap it up and put it in my fridge. But then when I start to pick at it the next morning I panic and take the whole thing and dump in the trash outside.
