so long, farewell!
11.29.11

It is bittersweetly that I must inform you that QUAIL has come to an end. The past five years have brought me so much pride and inspired me in ways that are unimaginable, however, it is time for me to move on… creatively, professionally, and personally.  I appreciate every single person who was encouraged me, supported me, shopped QUAIL, written about QUAIL, and beyond, more than I can explain in words.  Thank you for believing in me and my ideas of glamour, fashion and style.  On to the next adventure…

Jessica wearing the Quail Bridal Parisian Dress (http://quailbridal.com/bride/details/parisian_dress/) for her wedding in Santa Ana, California! Love how she infused her own personal style into the dress. I don’t think I’ve seen a cuter bride drink beer :) For more beautiful images, go to: (www.martinfrancovielma.com/photography/BLOG/Entries/2011/5/12_Jessica_and_Dan’s_Wedding.html

I’m finally home in LA! But before I really settle in, I wanted to share a photo diary of my travels to New York and Coachella. Enjoy my Quail-ettes!

I’ve got to give it up for my girl, Beth Jones! She is killing it in the styling world and I couldn’t be more proud of her. Have you read her blog? CHECK IT OUT. I just adore her post on bold prints. This is my newest style obsession and Beth has got it down. Read more here http://bjonesstyle.wordpress.com/

Dreamgirls…
03.07.11

Had to share these amazing pictures from one of my brides, Shannon. I had such a blast working with her bridal party. I think my exact quote to her was “You have such sweet friends!” Not to mention, GORGEOUS! Shannon and her hubby were wed in Palm Springs at the Viceroy Hotel. Shannon chose the “toasting dress” in all black. Stunning, classic, and chic…right?! Plus every girl got to pick out their own shoes. I have to say, this is my kind of bride! <3

1. What do you do on a day-to-day basis?

I’m an early riser, so I get up around 6 for a gym session to start my day!  Once I’m at work, I check emails, have team “huddles” (that highly resemble those you would see on TMZ), interview candidates – review resumes and portfolios, visit different schools with Fashion and/or Art Programs for guest speaking events and portfolio/resume workshops.  Basically my job is to find and bring in the best candidates in the fashion industry for our clients in Orange County and San Diego.  I’m usually pretty mellow during the week but if I do anything, it’s usually something mellow like dinner or a movie.  My weekends are my play time so I usually try to clean my house and run errands on Saturday mornings so that I don’t feel guilty for the lack of productivity the rest of my weekend.

2. What do you enjoy most about your job?

If you had asked me a year ago if I thought I’d be working for a staffing agency, I don’t even think I could have even really told you what a staffing agency actually did.  Now that I’m here, I can’t imagine doing anything else at this moment.  A huge part of it, though, is the people I work with – I have an AMAZING group of people that I work with and for, and feel super fortunate pretty much every day to be a part of this company.  Another great part is my role in getting involved with Fashion Students that are about to enter the work force.  Being able to better prepare them and make a difference in their professional career is extremely rewarding for me!

3. What are some clothing or accessories you can’t live without?

One thing for sure is a chain that has my puppy, Olivia’s sweet little dog tag on it – I wear it every day and I’d definitely cry if I lost it.  Another would be my collection of dynasty-like sparkle jackets, collection of vintage fur coats, and my gym/running clothes.  And leopard – I love leopard.  Oh and nail polish – I hate not having my nails painted.

4. If you could do anything other than what you are doing, what would that be?

I’d love to write for a Elle or another magazine – I’ve always enjoyed writing.  I’ll sometimes play editor for little blurbs that our office sends out, which is pretty fun!

5. If you could live anywhere other than where you live, where would that be?

South of France.  For sure, hands down.

6. Do you own any Quail? If so, what is your favorite item?

I’ve got a few pieces but my favorite items are the Chance Necklace and the Florette Bomber in Tomato (if I ever get it).

7. What is the most inspiring thing someone has ever told you?

Man, I feel like I should have so many of these…I like, “I work to live, I don’t live to work”.  I try to keep that in mind…

8. What is your favorite feature on yourself? And why?

I’d have to say my legs…they’re long and mini skirt friendly.  Which is great considering I don’t like to wear pants.

9. What is something most people don’t know about you?

I’d rather go to movies alone and I love working out to rap music.

10. Attach some photos of yourself.

Jasmine (is a) Star!

Little sneak peak from photo shoot shot by famed photographer Jasmine Star (http://www.jasminestarblog.com/). Seriously, you’ve got to take a peak at her site. Its truly special! Doesn’t the Parisian Gown look amazing in this toffee color? Can’t wait to meet the bride who dares to wear something a little different! More to come….

Quail Girl of the Moment: Mary Kate Steinmiller
01.17.11

Name: Mary Kate Steinmiller

Company: Teen Vogue Position: Fashion Market Editor

Current location: New York City

Hometown: Milwaukee, WI

1. What do you do on a day-to-day basis? I spend my mornings out on market appointments scouting and pulling clothing from showrooms. Afternoons are running around the office prepping for shoots, requesting samples, and meeting with the fashion department. After work I stop by a few industry events!

2. What do you enjoy most about your job? The excitement of the shows each season and anticipating how Teen Vogue will creatively interpret the trends for our issues.

3. What are some clothing or accessories you can’t live without? Brooks Brother’s boys white oxford shirts, American Eagle white tank tops, my wrist of friendship bracelets.

4. If you could do anything other than what you are doing, what would that be? I’m pretty much in my dream job right now, but if I had to leave the industry I would open a candy store!

5. If you could live anywhere other than where you live, where would that be? A little beach house somewhere warm and sunny.

6. Do you own any Quail? If so, what is your favorite item? I love the tulle party skirt from Spring 2010.

7. What is the most inspiring thing someone has ever told you? My dad is the most inspiring person in my life, not that he has said anything specific, but all my life I’ve worked with him as my example. He went from intern to Vice President of his company and is the hardest worker I know.

8. What is your favorite feature on yourself? And why? Long legs…my mother once said “If you’ve got them, flaunt them”. Are mom’s supposed to say that?

9. What is something most people don’t know about you? Aside from all my girly tendencies, I’m an intense NBA basketball fan.
